What a difference a tattoo can make. We are of course talking about the Royal Edinburgh Military
Tattoo currently performing at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne and bringing a
smile to the faces of many top end traders at the Queen Victoria Market (a very
royal connection).
The Tattoo is bringing thousands of visitors to Melbourne
and for many of them, our market is on the agenda. Our photo shows four large
tourist buses in the one shot on Peel St. on Saturday and many traders have
reported brisk business.
Interestingly, the visitors are definitely of an older
demographic and yet their spending seems to be quite broadly spread though out
the top end of the market. Perhaps categories like youth street wear may not
feel the love so much.
February can be a very quiet month (usually the quietest of
the year) so a business spike like this is very welcome. As one trader said – “Who
do we ring to book another event . We are not greedy, once a month would be
fine?”
