The City of
Melbourne asked politicians engaged in the upcoming Victorian state election to
express their views on some key issues for the city. One of the questions
involved the QVM –
“Will you
support Council’s vision for the renewal of the Queen Victoria Market and its
environs, including necessary planning approvals and road closures?”
So far the
leader of the Victorian Greens, MLC Greg Barber, has been the only respondent –
“YES, WITH CONDITIONS. Most importantly, the well-loved character of the market and the experience that comes with shopping there needs to be preserved for future generations when considering what renewals that are required. We support the pedestrianisation of Queen Street and the expansion of open space which the draft plan considers: however, the plan needs to be developed through strong engagement with residents, traders, visitors and workers.”
