A gloomy
picture for retailing continues into 2018 as insolvency experts predict more
problems for many stores particularly franchises. Economic pressures on
consumers, and intense competition, particularly from online, are raising big
hurdles for retailers. But if you are determined to be part of retailing there
is one category that is comparatively protected.
Consumables,
like food, and experiences, are considered safer bets than most categories of
retailing. Consumers seem happy to spend $15-$20 on a café outing or a movie
outing while pondering endlessly on clothing or gift purchases. And going out
for a coffee is not something you can do online.
Is there
