One of the key findings of the Phase 3 Consultation Report
on QVM Renewal concerned access to the market –
“• Access: while traders said that improved car
parking would improve access to the market, public participants said that
improved pedestrian amenity and safety would make it easier for them to access
the market.”
At first glance that might suggest that traders and the
public were at odds over the importance of car parking and yet the question about access was always going to get a different response. Traders were asked what
would make it easier for them to access the market. Given traders reliance on
vehicles to move stock to and from their stalls it is logical they would seek
improved car parking over improved pedestrian access or public transport.
The public was asked the same question and just for the record, the top 3 preferences on easier access by
the public were improved car parking (24%), improved pedestrian amenity and
safety (26%), and improved public transport (21%).
