Trader, Andy, heard about this innovative solution to abuse
of free car parking from the UK recently.
This retail carpark offered free customer parking but nearby
city workers were abusing the service by parking all day and restricting access
for genuine customers. We understand that city parkers poach our own QVM car
park and this is often given as reason for not offering free parking across the
board.
Authorities at this UK car park introduced a substantial fee
for parking during a fairly narrow timeframe each day, say 3-4.00pm, thus
providing a disincentive for all day parkers but not restricting legitimate
customers at other times. Sounds like an idea worthy of consideration by QVM
and MCC.
