Walmart's
huge store network requires very sophisticated back room technology and it has
helped make them the largest and arguably most successful retailer in the
world.
But the
latest innovation from Walmart is directed at in-store convenience for their
customers and it involves the ubiquitous iPhone. Their new iPhone self checkout
option is being tested in 14 markets and allows customers to scan products on
their phone as they place them in their cart, and then totals up for the checkout.
The customer pays and goes.
Walmart
has strong online competition from the likes of Amazon, but when the world’s biggest retailer takes on technology innovation,
everybody needs to watch out. Combining the best of technology with a
satisfying in-store experience is one way Walmart stays on top.
