Disquiet At Dandenong Market

Dandenong Market Traders are fed up with lack of business and are demanding rent reductions from the market operators.

Dandenong has undergone a re-development in recent years with trader's rents going up as a result. At a recent meeting 85 of the 110 general merchandise traders signed a petition asking for a 50% rent reduction backdated to July. Traders claim that Dandenong Market rents are the highest in Melbourne and are unsustainable.

The market board say they are investigating reasons for the downturn and how their rents compare with other Melbourne markets.
