A pet shop owner is famous for allowing customers to take a pet home over the weekend to help the customer make up their mind. His rate of return was very low.
An Australian online menswear retailer (kaeho.com.au) has taken a similar line by allowing customers to select as many items as they like to try on in the comfort of their home and simply returning what they don’t want, with the retailer paying for the return shipping. All the goods are charged up front and then a refund issued for the returns.
This concept might be worth a try by market traders although we could have the problem of convincing the customer that we will be there when they return the goods - a hangover from our nomadic trading style at QVM.
