The Herald Sun’s provocative headline (Saturday 12th November) stems from a proposal to invest $190million on a citywide vacuum garbage system with The Queen Victoria Market being a key component.
Ex councillor Peter Clarke (now chairman of urban renewal authority Places Victoria) is a supporter of the scheme and his argument includes calling the QVM’s waste collection “a Third World operation”.
The issue is to be debated at a special council meeting on Tuesday evening 15th November which would explain why we have all this public debate.
