Australia Post Accused of Gouging

Australia Post announced  its profit soared 31% this year as online parcel business boomed.
Online retailers, frustrated by the APO monopoly, are looking for a fairer playing field as they compete for global business with other countries with more competition and cheaper delivery options.
This writer was recently asked to quote on delivery of a $35 item weighing 1.5 kilo to Switzerland. The airmail cost was $56.50 and the seamail cost (8 weeks) was $30.20. I haven’t heard back from my customer, and I don’t expect to. We may be a long way from the rest of the world but it is difficult to consider those rates as anything else but a rip-off.
If Australian retailers are to be competitive in the global market, our postal service needs to be competitive.
